I unmounted a few partitions and ran e2fsck on them and at odd places they bombed out and the kernel panicked. finally I tfound a mirror that seemed to work ok, but then after a reboot dmesg reported that python had segfaulted, then I tried to run Emacs and got a segmentation fault, I tried to view man pages and nothing happened, anything I tried to do made the system behave erratically. I tried "apt-get update" a few times and it kept saying that it was corrupt, and I used lynx to download the file in question and I tested with bunzip2 and yes it was corrupt. Then after a reboot stuff began to go awry - I loaded up dselect and it bombed out, telling me that a Packages file was corrupeted. I had to configure fetchmail and exim4 correctly, and then I was working on getting xorg configured because as it was, the resolution and video modes were suboptimal for my hardware. #Abit nfm2 nview installI had a mirror on my sources.list and all the software updated itself and I was actually thinking that it was the smoothest install ever. I'm using the etch dvd set, and it installed beautifully.
